The first two episodes will be followed by a new episode every Wednesday until September 4, 2024. Created by Katie Robbins (The Affair) and directed by Lucy Tcherniak (Station Eleven, The End of the F***ing World).

The series Sunny is an adaptation of the novel Dark Manual by Colin O’Sullivan, an Irish author based in Japan.

“Sunny” is a darkly comedic mystery series starring Rashida Jones as Suzie, an American living in Kyoto, Japan. Her life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash.

As consolation, she receives Sunny, a new-generation domestic robot made by her husband’s electronics company.

Although initially reluctant to let Sunny fill the void left by her family, Suzie eventually develops an unexpected friendship with the robot.

Together, they uncover the dark truth behind her family’s disappearance and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.

And joining Rashida Jones are Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car), Joanna Sotomura (Barry), and Jun Kunimura (Jukaï: The Forest of the Suicides).

 

Lady in the Lake, Alma Har’el, on July 24th

Lady in the lake is an American crime drama miniseries adapted from Laura Lippman’s bestselling novel “Lady in the Lake,” the series is set in 1960s Baltimore and tackles themes of racism, sexism, and class struggles.

Synopsis

The story begins with the disappearance of a little girl, shaking the city of Baltimore. Maddie Schwartz, a housewife looking to reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, becomes obsessed with another less-publicized crime: the unresolved murder of a young African-American woman, Cleo Sherwood, found dead in a lake. As Maddie delves into the case, the lives of these two women intersect, putting their loved ones at risk​.

The series is directed by Alma Har’el, known for her unique visual storytelling and compelling narratives.

The Arctic Convoy,  on July 26, 2024 directed by Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken.

The series tells the harrowing story of Norwegian cargo ships that supplied the Russian army during World War II, navigating through treacherous, enemy-infested Arctic waters​.

Synopsis

The series is set in 1941 and follows a convoy of 35 civilian merchant ships carrying vital military supplies from Iceland to the Soviet Union. These convoys had to brave brutal Arctic conditions and relentless German air and naval attacks. The story focuses on one particular convoy journey, highlighting the courage and resilience of the sailors as they face insurmountable odds​.

The story focuses on Gabriel Montoya Vidal, nicknamed “Baby,” a teenager involved in the jihadist attacks of March 11, 2004, in Madrid.

Only 16 years old at the time, Baby played a crucial role in transporting the explosives used in this tragedy.
