A seamstress in Douala, Pierrette takes care of her children and her mother alone. Accustomed to having to take things day by day, she must nevertheless endure a pickpocketing and a flood that invades her house and her workshop. As always, Pierrette sews fabrics, perhaps also plans, and her life in any case, while her clients talk to her about their worries. A fiction nourished by largely documentary material, Mambar Pierrette is admirably straightforward, without pathos, like its main interpreter, valiant and discreet, never giving up.

Rosine Mbakam grew up in Yaoundé in a working-class neighborhood that fueled her imagination. After a stint at STV in Douala and her studies at INSAS, she founded her production company, Tândor Productions. She directed four feature-length documentaries. The New Yorker defines her as “an original filmmaker with exceptional sensitivity; one of the greatest documentary filmmakers currently in activity.”
