The Old Oak, Ken Loach
Synopsis
TJ Ballantyne is the landlord of the Old Oak, a pub in a small town in the north of England.
Every day, he serves the same idle regulars, for whom it has become the last place to meet.
The arrival of Syrian refugees will create tensions in the village.
But TJ befriends Yara, a young migrant with a passion for photography.
Together, they will try to breathe new life into the local community by developing a canteen for the most disadvantaged, whatever their origins.

“Sorry we missed you” was about the daily life of a self-employed delivery driver, under the uncompromising orders of an online sales platform. We followed this man and his life throughout the film with unbearable suspense and truth.
But in his latest film, a sort of fairytale about the meeting of two communities, the multiplication of stories does the film a disservice. Racism and anti-Semitism are still hot topics today, but this film feels like déjà vu.
There is still some poetry when Ken Loach films the bar owner, a man prey to great moments of sadness.

Synopsis
In this season, we follow the love story between Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed, which is brutally interrupted by a fatal car accident.
This season reveals the consequences of Diana’s sudden death for her family, starting of course with her children, while the monarchy suffers the wrath of public opinion. We see how Queen Elizabeth II struggles to know what to do in the face of tragedy.
Yes or No?
As a fan of the series, I won’t necessarily be objective in this review, but it’s a big yes to this first part of the final season of The Crown.
Elisabeth Debicki plays Lady Di with subtlety and characteristic charm, a fragile woman who gives the impression that, like Marilyn Monroe or Grace Kelly, the only person worthy of the name waiting for her was death.
Dominic West is, as usual, fabulous in the role of Prince Charles, even if he really is much, much better looking.
Salim Daw plays Dodi Al-Fayed and his father, played by Khalid Abdalla, are a little caricatured, but there is a certain truth to the story.
Finally, the post-mortem scenes with Lady Di are sublimely poetic and a tribute to this woman who has fascinated and continues to fascinate.

Full of delicacy and humour, Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen’s second feature, following the acclaimed “Olli Mäki”, recounts the meeting of two solitudes during a snowy journey to the far reaches of post-Soviet Russia.
Moscow, 1996. Finnish Laura, an archaeology student in Russia, has just been dumped by her girlfriend and sets off on a train journey to Murmansk to admire the Kanozero petroglyphs, rock paintings dating back 10,000 years. On this 2,000-kilometre journey, she has to share her sleeping car, compartment 6, with Ljoha, a Russian miner. At first repulsed by his rudeness, his obscene flirtatious remarks, his alcoholism and his constant smoking, Laura, over the course of this six-day journey beyond the Arctic Circle, ends up taking a liking to this young man who is as lonely as she is.

A keen observer of the torments of the Japanese soul, Ozu left a body of work of over fifty films, cited as an example by Jim Jarmusch and Aki Kaurismäki, that bears witness to the upheavals of the pre- and post-war periods.
There are no palace intrigues or clashing knives, as with his illustrious colleagues Kurosawa or Mizoguchi, but a total devotion to contemporary, naturalistic family stories.
