Sunny, streaming now: a moving and thrilling series.

The first two episodes will be followed by a new episode every Wednesday until September 4, 2024. Created by Katie Robbins (The Affair) and directed by Lucy Tcherniak (Station Eleven, The End of the F***ing World).

The series Sunny is an adaptation of the novel Dark Manual by Colin O’Sullivan, an Irish author based in Japan.

“Sunny” is a darkly comedic mystery series starring Rashida Jones as Suzie, an American living in Kyoto, Japan. Her life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash.

As consolation, she receives Sunny, a new-generation domestic robot made by her husband’s electronics company.

Although initially reluctant to let Sunny fill the void left by her family, Suzie eventually develops an unexpected friendship with the robot.

Together, they uncover the dark truth behind her family’s disappearance and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.

And joining Rashida Jones are Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car), Joanna Sotomura (Barry), and Jun Kunimura (Jukaï: The Forest of the Suicides).

The story begins with the disappearance of a little girl, shaking the city of Baltimore. The series is set in 1941 and follows a convoy of 35 civilian merchant ships carrying vital military supplies from Iceland to the Soviet Union. These convoys had to brave brutal Arctic conditions and relentless German air and naval attacks. The story focuses on one particular convoy journey, highlighting the courage and resilience of the sailors as they face insurmountable odds​.
