The International African Diaspora Film Festival (FIFDA) returns for its 14th edition this year. It promises a rich event full of cultural discoveries and cinema celebration.

From September 6 to 8, 2024, Paris will become the gathering point for filmmakers, cinema enthusiasts, and the African diaspora.

FIFDA is an exceptional showcase for African diaspora cinema.

Twelve new films will be screened in two iconic venues: Cinéma St André des Arts and Cinéma CGR Paris Lilas.

Opening Film: “Walter Rodney: What They Don’t Want You to Know”

The festival will open with this poignant documentary on the life of renowned historian and activist Walter Rodney.

Supported by the Walter Rodney Foundation, it will be followed by a discussion with filmmakers Arlen Harris and Daniyal Harris-Vajda.

“Kafe Negro: Cuba and the Haitian Revolution”

The screening of “Kafe Negro” will delve into the influence of the Haitian revolution on Cuba.

This documentary by Mario Delatour will be followed by a discussion with Jean Marie Théodat, a geographer and specialist of this historical period.

“Mère Suriname / Mama Sranan”

The closing film, “Mère Suriname,” directed by Tessa Leuwsha, traces the history of Suriname through the touching portrait of a laundress on the path to independence.

This screening will be followed by a discussion with artist Denise Jannah.

 

 

 

FIFDA 2024: A diverse program for all tastes

 

The festival will cover various themes, such as the struggle for independence with “A Piece of Our Land” or the challenges of immigration with “Emna.”

Personal and intimate stories like “Big Little Women,” a tribute to women through 75 years of Egyptian and Swiss history, will also be featured.

Finally, festival-goers will discover works such as “Taane,” a colorful Malian comedy, and “Invisible Mules,” a gripping thriller exploring drug trafficking in Martinique.
