Detroit Salon Takes Over Paris Ahead of Art Basel 2025
DETROIT SALON kicked off its Paris programming on October 18, 2025, with an opening night at the Palais de Tokyo. This event marked the beginning of an engaged and recognized showcase just before Art Basel Paris running from October 24 to 26 at the Grand Palais. The platform highlights 31 artists expressing the richness and diversity of Detroit’s contemporary scene through exhibitions spread across several key venues.
“Resonance” Exhibition at Palais de Tokyo
At the Palais de Tokyo, the exhibition Resonance: Building Detroit’s Artistic Future highlights the strength of collective effort and mutual support. Artists including Zahra Almajidi, Tiff Massey, Mario Moore, Jamea Richmond-Edwards, and Levon Kafafian present practices blending shared spaces, tools, cooperation, and formal exploration.
“Stitched into History”: Legacy of Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion at Hôtel de Talleyrand
From October 21 to 23, “Stitched into History” honors the legacy of Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion, a landmark of Black fashion and entrepreneurship, through powerful textile and stylistic creations. A series of roundtables brings together artists, curators, diplomats, and cultural institutions from both sides of the Atlantic for cultural dialogue.
“Domestic Dialogues” at Grand Palais during Art Basel Paris
From October 24 to 26, at the Grand Palais – Galerie Winston Churchill during Art Basel Paris, “Domestic Dialogues: The Art of Living in Detroit” immerses visitors in a reinvented domestic space. This nontraditional scenography reimagines the intimate connection between artists, artworks, and collectors around a history of craftsmanship, reinvention, and expression.
Engaging Roundtable with Detroit Salon Artists
A highlight of the program was a roundtable moderated by Juana Williams, curator based in Detroit and a key figure of Detroit Salon.
Artists Mario Moore, Levon Kafafian, and Joey Quiñones shared reflections on memory, identity, collective care, and transmission in their artistic practices.

My conversation with Levon Kafafian illuminated his textile work, which intertwines personal memory and shared gestures, addressing the complex issue of building collective narratives through material.
Founders of an Engaged Platform
Detroit Salon was founded by Anna M. Hamilton and Julie Egan, who developed the initiative to build a sustainable cultural bridge between Detroit and the global art scene. They aim to support a rich, diverse, collaborative artistic community through ongoing programs beyond exhibitions.
