DOCUMENTARIES

GROSSMAN, directed by Adi Arbel

Screened Sunday 19 at 7:15 pm at the Majestic Passy in the presence of the director

Music : Jasmine Even

Synopsis

Since the early 1980s, David Grossman has taken his place at the center of Israeli culture and is one of the most profound, moving and influential voices in Israeli literature.

Director Adi Arbel paints a rare and intimate portrait of this writer and allows us to enter the depths of his work.

This film establishes the delicate and complex link between his novels and his personal life.

In an interview, David Grossman talks about the tragic death of his son and the impact it had on his work.

“I’ve learned something about my writing since my son Uri was killed: there is only one way to understand the slightest hint of what exists beyond the impenetrable wall of death, the feeling of non-existence. And yet, we feel the immensity of what it means to be alive right next to it – and that is through writing. That’s what I strive for in my writing, to exist in both places, just for a brief moment.”

MY NEIGHBOR ADOLF, LEON PRUDOVSKY

Saturday, March 18 at 7pm

May 1960: Polsky, a lonely and grumpy Holocaust survivor, lives in the remote Colombian countryside. One day, a mysterious German moves in next door.

Wouldn’t it be… Adolf Hitler? Detective in spite of himself, he will get closer to his neighbor than he would like.

Inspired by the fate of his grandmother who was never able to overcome the trauma of World War II, the filmmaker explains:

“I didn’t want to focus on Hitler and penetrate his evil mind. I wanted to take the point of view of a Holocaust survivor who is still suffering from it. With Dmitry, we said to ourselves that we should put ourselves in the head of the person who is living the trauma, not in Hitler’s.”

With David Hayman and Udo Kier.

KARAOKE – MOSHE ROSENTHAL

It opens the Israeli Film Festival in Paris this year. Screening on Saturday, March 18 at 13:30.

This film won the Ophirs Award for Sasson Gabai and Rita Shukrun.

Meir (Sasson Gabai) and Tova (Rita Shukrun) are a Mizrahi couple in their sixties who live in a huge new high-rise apartment building in Holon, whose marble lobby looks like it was modeled after Trump Tower.

A new neighbor moves into their building: Itzik Marciano (Lior Ashkenazi). Their daily life will then be turned upside down. This man to whom everything succeeds awakens their buried aspirations. What if they too had become artists? A comedy about Israeli society not to be missed!
